I've been behind this camera for over a decade, and I can tell you with absolute certainty: the woman standing in front of my lens is almost never who she thinks she is when she walks in the door.
She thinks she's the woman who needs to lose 15 pounds first. The one who's "not photogenic." The one who could never pull off something like this. She arrives nervous, arms crossed, wondering if she made a mistake.
And then something shifts.
It happens differently for every woman — sometimes it's in hair and makeup when she catches her reflection and barely recognizes herself. Sometimes it's midway through the session when she stops thinking and just starts feeling.
